Welcome Future Member! You have taken the first step. Read On!
The Failte Group hopes to make newcomers feel welcome, competent and confident to join our other road groups in NCC..We introduce you to some of the etiquette and discipline that is required to ride in a group.
We simulate ‘roll overs’, explain ‘half wheeling’, practice how to maintain a straight line, maintaining concentration and chatting without taking your eyes off the road.Yes it sounds challenging!!!When you add the myriad of cycling calls “hole left, right and centre, car up and down, hold the wheel, no half wheeling, slowing, stopping, ramp etc”, it is daunting for newcomers to our sport.
The route is set at around 35k with an average speed of about 20kph, which is well within the capabilities of all beginners. We pick a wide road to start so that we can get the group rolling, moving on to more rural roads and to the coffee stop.
The coffee break is a further opportunity for newcomers to mingle with the more experienced mentors and to ask questions. Our aim is to move Beginners/ Newcomers through to one of the other Saturday and/or Sunday road groups within three weeks, this is an aspiration!
You are invited to join in as a guest rider for two spins, if you like club cycling you are welcome to join NCC.
So get on yer bike and have a go, looking forward to meeting you on Saturday morning at K Leisure New Caragh Rd Naas at 930 returning at noon.
