It was a Lazy Sunday morning nearly 8 years ago now when I drove in to Naas and straight in to the heart of what was at that time the most amount of bikes I had ever seen .
We stopped the car to take a look at this great spectacle.

The atmosphere on the main street outside the courthouse was electric with music and people in lycra, people in MKF hats and t-shirts buzzing around the place. I had been looking for something to replace my soccer days and golf just wasn’t satisfying my competitive edge.

So I in fact I credit the Tour of Kildare in 2008 starting my love affair and now addiction to cycling. To be asked to to put myself forward for election as Touring secretary and to co-ordinate such an event had meant my Journey had come full circle. With many sportives under my belt I felt I could add learnings to the role.

Little did I know what was really involved. Ignorance is truly bliss. However working with a charity such as the Marie Keating foundation has meant the learnings have been plenty but the failures next to none. As I drove across the curragh last year with the aroma of fresh coffee resonating from the boot I truly understood the hard effort that goes in to running such a succesful event that we have been running for over 15 years and hopefully many more years to come.
It’s a great honour to be the NCC Touring Captain and I look forward to staging our most succesful event yet on our traditional date in August.
