AUTUMN TRANSITION

Following a very good 2017 season for the club, the racing section of the club wants to carry forward the progress into 2018, encouraging as many members as possible to give racing a go. However, September/October is a rest and transition period for most of us; a time to watch the World Championships, the final classics, and re-group for next year. Its a time for off-bike activities, gym work and of course some cyclo-cross racing right up to the Nationals next January 14th in Glencullen, Dublin.

SUNDAY SPINS: Sept/Oct

Starting next Sunday 24th and running up to the clock change in October, the race group will depart from 9am on a short but steady non-stop spin of about 70km; the distance is similar to Inbetweeners/C group, the pace somewhere between A and B group, but the emphasis is mostly on bike skills, group dynamics and a bit of banter. Many riders are tired from a long season so there are no intervals etc – it’s more about thinking ahead for the long winter months and setting goals for 2018. And riders are encouraged to be fit and have their bike/gear in good order for the spin.

Riders who are thinking of racing next year – at any level – are advised to take in one or more of these spins: training in Jan/Feb will be easier if you get started now with easy group rides. A dedicated “Beginners Racing Spin” will be staged on Saturday October 14th, 9.30am from K Leisure if there are riders interested.

The upcoming “Tour of the Falling Leaves” Leisure Cycle in Baltinglass (Sept 30th) – which covers a section of the Gorey 3-Day course – is also an really excellent end of season event to whet the racing appetite for next season. While a variety of cyclocross events take us right up to Christmas and beyond, for those who love the mud. (See Mark Yandle for more info)
