Andreas Klier – one of the really great winter training warriors

LONG SUNDAY SPINS: the 4th/5th hour…

This Sunday we cover c.115km on a mostly flat route; we hit Stradbally at 49km, then tackle the Windy Gap (3.2km @5.2%) This is a chance for us to test the legs at the start of our winter training – we can return to the climb in the Spring to measure any progress. We stop in Athy (76km) before heading home via Ballyshannon, back across the Curragh and Athgarvan. Should be home by 1pm

The idea here is to build endurance with a focus on maintaining form right into the 4th and maybe 5th hour over the next number of weeks. Please ensure that you have food/drink with you and that your bike is set up for winter conditions and that we keep the pace strong but steady throughout.

Winter training prepares riders for the harsh racing of March/April

Bear in mind that the last 30km of this spin might prove more challenging than expected, heading back uphill and into crosswinds from the northwest. So no need to push the pace at all. lets get everybody back to Naas in good form. See you at 9am.
