RACING GROUP – Sunday Oct 8th
The final Classic of the road season is held this Saturday: the Tour of Lombardy is the original “Tour of the Falling Leaves” and is regularly voted the most beautiful of all bike races; and with good reason. It traverses some of the most scenic and spectacular roads in Europe, most notably the climb from Bellagio on the shores of Lake Como to the summit of the “Madonna del Ghisallo,” the chapel dedicated to the Patron Saint of Cycling. It is here that cycling fans and ordinary citizens travel to reflect upon the beauty of the sport as well as pay homage to many who have fallen to their demise while riding their bikes. It is a place worthy of a visit for both casual and serious followers of cycling. And with an increase in road deaths in our own country, being mindful of our own vulnerability on club spins is no bad thing. We all must keep safe and ride together as a group.
On Sunday, the racing group will cover 76km non-stop on mostly flat roads into a blustery western wind. We would encourage anybody who has intentions of racing next season to join us for the spin – pace will be fairly steady, around 30kmh and we aim to practice good group skills on the move. Heading towards Allenwood, Rathangan, Monasterevin and home via Kildare and Athgarvan. No need for any intervals – the winter is still ahead of us.
See you at 9am.
