The Last Picnic
Glorious weather and great company was in evidence as Naas Cyclists converged on Russborough for their annual picnic. The ranks were swollen by new members in their fledgling year with the club.
Despite the weather and the marvellous surroundings, the event was tinged with sadness as we witnessed the imminent departure of Linda, Keith and family for the land of the Swedish Kroner where Linda was born.
Partings can be a sad occasion both for those departing and those left behind. However, it is not a time to feel diminished. We enjoyed the company, the meet-ups at the Courthouse, the shared activity on the road. As they carry our good wishes with them into their new life hopefully their experience with Naas Cycling Club will have imbued them with a love for cycling that will continue into the next generation, as this young family move to a different land. Cycling is a great joiner of persons. Distance is no longer the lifelong parting it once was. Strava that virtual platform will keep us all together, as it did when we witnessed Linda’s home training sessions in Kill. And hopefully it won’t be their last picnic with us as we look forward to some visits back in the future.
As they both depart, we are sorry to see them go, but wish them many happy and exciting times in the years ahead.
