Group charters

In order to take part in any Naas Cycling Club Group ride, riders must comply with the following requirements; up to date membership, helmet & ICE bracelet with current contacts, Road Race bike in good working order, tyres & brakes in good condition and tyres inflated to the recommended pressures, pump/CO2, tyre levers and spare tube(s). For the winter season (Oct-Apr) front & rear lights plus full rear mudguards are also mandatory, note this means a mudguard that protects you and the person behind you, not just an “ass-saver” style mudguard

Safety is paramount to us at NCC, members need to learn and use our “Road Calls”, your group captain sets the standard of call for each group

Racing Group

A Group

The A Group caters for riders with a high level of fitness capable of maintaining an average speed of 30kph+ over distances of 100kms and above, in winter distances drop to 90km and average speeds drop to 28kph.

The ethos of the A Group is that no one gets left behind, riders may spread out on steep climbs, the road captain will call a regroup to allow the group to come back together, you start and finish together as a group.

The A Group stops for a ~20 minute coffee break at approximately half way round on each spin. In circumstances where a member breaks off early from the ride to head home alone, we ask they text the WhatsApp group letting the captain know they got home safely.

InBetweeners Saturday Group

The InBetweeners Group is for riders with a good level of fitness capable of maintaining an average speed of 22-24kph over distances of 60kph, in winter distances drop to ~45kms and average speed stays at the 22kph level.

While we do have dedicated & very proud “InBetweeners” who only ride with us on Saturdays, these rides are normally a mixture of riders from the B, C and Social group and as a result the ethos is that we match the ride to the ability of the lowest common denominator, e.g. if the ride is 3xB, 4xC and 1xSocial, we adhere to the level of the social rider.

The ethos is very much no one gets left behind and the group looks to stay together on the road as much as possible, like the other group, where on a steep climb the group spreads out the road captain will call a regroup.

The InBetweeners Group stops for a ~20 minute coffee break at approximately half way round on each spin. In circumstances where a member breaks off early from the ride to head home alone, we ask they text the WhatsApp group letting the captain know they got home safely

Social Group

The Social Group is for riders of all abilities covering distances of 40-50kph depending on condition and participants. The group travels at the speed of the slowest rider.

The ethos is very much a social one, no one gets left behind and the group looks to stay together on the road as much as possible.
