The Cycleways Cup in Navan is one of the top races in the calendar year and attracts some of the top riders in the country. Naas CC had 4 riders in the field riding in the A3 and A4 categories on Sunday and 2 of them showed their mettle with top 10 performances.

Dave Costello rode in the A3 race and had a great result, taking 7th place on what was a difficult course with plenty of climbing. Dave is showing good form early in the season and he will be a force in the Gorey 3 Day, his main aim for the season.

Fergus Sharkey once again was in the points and took 5th place in the A4 race. The bunch stayed together for the majority of the race apart from a nasty crash 4k from the finish. This brought down a dozen riders but the Fergus was able to hold off most of the 70 strong field to take a great result. He only requires 2 more points and will be upgraded to the A3 category.

There should be a few more riders from Naas opening their accounts in the coming weeks and we wish them all the best for the season ahead.

Next racing is in Clonard on Saturday for the Ras Naomh Finan road race followed on Sunday by the Newbridge Grand Prix. We hope for a strong turn-out in this local race and send best wishes to John Malone at Newbridge CC and his team in their preparations for this enjoyable event.
