Hugh, Cathal and myself made the trip to Camross, Co. Wexford for the Frank O’Rourke memorial race. Distance was100 km for the A3 and about 70 starters lined up on a warm, sunny but blustery day. After a short first lap, we were redirected out to do four laps of the bigger circuit, and the sharpish climb in the first kilometre almost took its toll- a lot of us struggled to get back on. Surfaces were very bumpy in places but marshalling was excellent all round. There was a three-man breakaway from early on and two of them (just about) stayed away and fully deserved their placings. By the end, the bunch was whittled down to about 50, and myself and Cathal came in with it; Hugh not enjoying this trip to the sunny south-east on a day where you really needed for it all to go right. He’ll be back!
